To you parents of young children, may I share with you some sage advice from President Spencer W. Kimball. Said he: “It would be a fine thing if … parents would have in every bedroom in their house a picture of the temple so [their children] from the time [they are] infant[s] could look at the picture every day [until] it becomes a part of [their lives]. When [they reach] the age that [they need] to make [the] very important decision [concerning going to the temple], it will have already been made.”I think that it is important for all of us to have pictures of the temple in our home, regardless of whether or not we have small children.

We have a picture of the Mount Timpanogos temple because that is where we got sealed :)
ReplyDelete"As you and I go to the holy houses of God, as we remember the covenants we make within, we will be more able to bear every trial and to overcome each temptation. In this sacred sanctuary we will find peace; we will be renewed and fortified."
ReplyDeleteIsaiah 2
ReplyDelete2 And it shall come to pass in the alast days, that the bmountain of the Lord’s chouse shall be destablished in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all enations shall flow unto it.
3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us ago up to the bmountain of the Lord, to the chouse of the God of Jacob; and he will dteach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of eZion shall go forth the flaw, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
oh boy, I better catch up.
ReplyDeleteWe have a photo - it's a photo that is made to look really old - of the provo temple in our front entryway next to a photo of Derek and I on our wedding day in front of the same temple.
We also have a wall hanging of the Bern Switzerland temple that are french landlady brought back for us from France last month. It used to belong to her mother who just recently passed away. we have a little stitching work to do on it but then it will be in the kids room.
ReplyDelete"Why are so many willing to give so much in order to receive the blessings of the temple? Those who understand the eternal blessings which come from the temple know that no sacrifice is too great, no price too heavy, no struggle too difficult in order to receive those blessings. There are never too many miles to travel, too many obstacles to overcome, or too much discomfort to endure. They understand that the saving ordinances received in the temple that permit us to someday return to our Heavenly Father in an eternal family relationship and to be endowed with blessings and power from on high are worth every sacrifice and every effort."
ReplyDeleteI like this quote because I only live 25 minutes from a temple and it is a good reminder that the cost and annoyance of finding and paying a babysitter, plus scheduling with my husband, is nothing compared to the blessings received and work performed in the temple.
Matthew 21:14
ReplyDelete"And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them."
This is not necessarily my favorite - but it is comforting. I think the temple is a place of healing for all of us (if we go with the right attitude and heart and spirit) no matter what our ailment.
We have pictures of the Mount Timpanogos temple because that is where we were sealed! And then the kids have picked their favorite temples for their rooms...the Hawaii, Las Vegas, and St. George. They mostly chose those because they thought the temples looked "awesome". :) Love this idea, Becca! And love reading your spiritual insights.
ReplyDeleteWe have a small porcelain statue of the Salt Lake Temple on display in our home. It was a wedding present after we were married there. We also have the temple in all of our wedding photos (does that count?).
ReplyDelete"Those who understand the eternal blessings which come from the temple know that no sacrifice is too great, no price too heavy, no struggle too difficult in order to receive those blessings."
ReplyDeleteThis quote is VERY humbling.
"And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them." Matthew 21:14
ReplyDeleteThis still works. The Lord heals our spiritual troubles when we go to the temple.
We display two of the Manti Temple where we were sealed in Dec. 1992. One was taken on the frozen snowy day that we were married. The other is an antique looking print. We also have two or three of the Lubbock, TX Temple where we used to live when that temple was announced and built. My oldest three girls, although still young, were able to sit at President Hinckley's feet for the corner stone ceremony. We also had the honor to work in that temple.
ReplyDeletePress Monson also said in the past conference: "I plead with you to teach your children of the temple's importance."
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorites comes from the Official Declaration--2. This revelation extends the priesthood and temple blessings to all worthy male members. I have always been touched by the dedication of early pioneer Jane Manning who was a black women who tried so hard to get to the temple. She talked to several prophets about her desire and each one said she could not yet. The time was not right. Then she vowed to out live that prophet and talk with the next one. Which she did several times. In the end when she was told No, she said to that prophet: "I can't out live you.". That blessing for her came after her death. But it is incredible that any worthy member can now enjoy the blessings of the temple!
ReplyDeletewe have a picture of the Washington DC temple because we were sealed there, and it is our local temple, and my favorite (although that's probably because of the other two reasons) :)
ReplyDeletePresident Joseph F. Smith, in a mighty declaration, stated, “Through our efforts in their behalf their chains of bondage will fall from them, and the darkness surrounding them will clear away, that light may shine upon them and they shall hear in the spirit world of the work that has been done for them by their children here, and will rejoice with you in your performance of these duties.
ReplyDeleteI love the temple! In our home, the Salt Lake temple appears in all our wedding photos. My favorite one is one that my dad photo shopped of my husband and I in front of the Salt Lake temple. He had it framed and given to us for our first Christmas. It has a prominent place in our living room.
ReplyDelete"My brothers and sisters, temples are more than stone and mortar. They are filled with faith and fasting. They are built of trials and testimonies. They are sanctified by sacrifice and service." I love the entire talk and we try to quote it to our young women as often as we can.
ReplyDeletewe have the Bountiful Temple in our home. It is were Anne and I was sealed and 10 years later on our Anniversary were were sealed to our four boys.
ReplyDeleteWe have the Jordan river where we were sealed the oackland and dc where we have lived near and a drawing of the phili temple that had the ground breaking a few weeks ago as we will be in the temple distric when it opens.
ReplyDeleteWe have a picture of the Salt Lake Temple - the temple my husband and I were sealed in.
ReplyDeleteOur stake organized a temple/family history day. Various displays and activities were set up in rooms all around the stake center - from the class rooms, to the cultural hall, to the stake offices. My favorite activity was a family photo shoot on the stage. We got to choose a temple to have projected on the screen behind us as the backdrop for our family photo. We chose the Vernal, UT temple, because that is where my husband grew up.
