GCBC Week 25: “What Thinks Christ of Me?”

Only two more weeks until October General Conference. I love General Conference. I’ve said it multiple times, and I’m sure the number of posts around here about Conference, referring to conference, or quoting conference talks proves it. I am a General Conference junkie. I can’t get enough. I even downloaded every General Conference that is available (back to 1974 I believe) on my iPhone so that I can have General Conference at my finger tips.

That also means that after this week there are only two more weeks of General Conference book Club before the new session starts up in October. And, much as I have loved hosting GCBC, due to Stephanie’s return from sabbatical General Conference Book Club will be returning to Diapers and Divinity after October Conference. I told Stephanie that honestly I was excited for her return, because while I have really enjoyed hosting General Conference Book Club, I much prefer being a participant on her blog. I like writing lengthy posts and linking to them in the comment section on her blog. What can I say, I like being long winded. I also like not having to remember to blog every Sunday (and if you’ve been around you’ll know that I don’t remember to blog every Sunday… and this post is no exception).

So, without further ado, here is Elder Neil L. Andersen’s conference talk -

What Thinks Christ of Me? - by Elder Neil L. Andersen

What were your thoughts about Elder Andersen’s talk?

  1. You answered my question, I had asked Stephanie if she was taking over again and she never answered me, she never answers my questions actually I don't think she reads my comments but that is okay, no worries. I've really enjoyed you doing this, your posts are a bit long winded but they go pretty deep. I admire you for your dedication to studying the gospel and I mean you STUDY! It is awesome and I've also loved how if your grappling with an issue you just talk about it then you research it then you share and discuss, it is amazing. I just felt like sharing that. I think I told you early on that I am pretty new to the LDS blog world, I'm also not very tech savvy so I probably asked you some silly technical blogging questions I can't remember. Anyway, I hope that your coming along in your process to being a foster Mother and that you were able to read that story that I tried to send to you. When I read it I thought of you and how you are willing to open your heart and home to foster children. I am certain that you will be blessed as will they. I have step children, as well as my own so its a little bit different but there are similarities. Another persons bad choices landed me with three wonderful step children and three amazing relationships. My Mother was telling me that Sister Oaks spoke about this issue, in a way, at the Utah County Regional Stake Conference on Sunday. She said that Elder Oaks was speaking then he handed it over to Sister Oaks then she handed it back to him. She said that their talks were just amazing, I am trying to find them but I haven't been able to. From what my Mother told me Sister Oaks spoke about how she didn't get married until she was 53 and that all of those years she wanted a family but didn't have one and she wondered why the Lord was doing this. I am paraphrasing based on what my Mom told me, anyway then she got married in her 50's and now she has wonderful step children and a whole bunch of grandchildren and it all makes sense to her. That the Lord has his time table and he knows what he is doing, we just need to trust it. All of this reminds me of what you shared about bringing foster kids into your family, it will all work out and be a blessing. I hope that makes sense, I always feel so inarticulate when I communicate on your blog. Oh well, anyway have a wonderful evening and thanks for sharing this! Cheers!

  2. I especially love the story of the children being found during the rubble of the Haitian earthquake. The father demonstrated such faith, and what a miracle for their family. I also loved, "Discipleship is believing Him [Christ] in seasons of peace and believing Him in seasons of difficulty, when our pain and fear are calmed only by the conviction that He loves us and keeps His promises."
